Oh, it's active.
Hiyar!
Sorry for the lack of updates, people. Been thinking of stuff to put in here, and I'v come up with a lot, it's just that I'm lazy to tha bone. And I don't have time to write a lot this time so I'll just post the best albums I bought in 2005:
Transistor Transistor - Erase All Name And Likeness
I found these guys on a Rock Sound cd. It was the track Black Cat and I just fell in love at the sheer dirtyness of it. I especially hit it off with the line "the drama isn't as dramatic as it should be". I don't have time to write a real text so I'll just leave you with a couple of tracks:
Transistor Transistor - Black CatTransistor Transistor - Powerchord AcademyTransistor Transistor - Sweet WilliamsAll songs from their
WEBSITE.
I suggest you start with Sweet Williams and work your way upwards (I will definitely do a proper post on these guys later.
Drat! That's all I have time for right now. Gotta go learn some Russian history.
See you all SOON!
I ran into her on computer camp.
"I had my Commodore 64, had to score."
Datarock are far too awesome for their own good. Check out their site
datarock.no for some videos, and their
myspace for some tunes. I haven't seen the videos because these stupid Russian-computers are too slow to let me download them, but I doubt that they are anything less than fantabulous.
So my first post as an MP3-blog was... well I don't know what it was, because I have no idea if anyone managed to get the songs before the YouSendIt-links expired. Or one person did and that was Jon of
AdamRiff, and he put the
Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly song on there, so if you were late here you can hurry on over to AdamRiff and get it while they have it up!
And seeing as I'm in the mood, here are my predictions for 2006:
Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly (myspace) - Well obviously this kid is going places, his blend of acoustic/emu with experimental beats and such, can't do anything but make you go "wow, this is pretty good. Nay! On second thought, this is pretty brilliant!" So go check it out, and remember where you heard of this dude first. I need the word to spread.
Frank Turner (<--website.
Myspace) - This dude used to sing in one of my favorite bands, but sadly they came to an end this September. They were the mighty
Million Dead and played something like posthardcore/rock/alternative or whatever. I will definitely do a feature on them when I get back to Norway so stay tuned for that. But after the split Frank turned to his roots, and began as an artist in the folky/acousticie-vein. And I'm glad he did, because his stuff is far too good. He recently blew me away with his new song on his Myspace page,
Cassanovas Lament, so make sure you go check it out. Made me all goosebumpy.
Your Codename Is: Milo (<--website.
Myspace) Enough of those whiny-acoustic bastards, time to rock, but in a highly original and experimental way. Many a music journalist has claimed that YCI:M sounds like no one else. And I have to concur. I have a bit of trouble tagging them with a comparison, and that's what I like about them. However I don't have any of the Albums/Ep's, so I guess I'm not completely reliable on what I'm saying, but what I've heard of the demos they've made for the new album, and the songs from their debut full-length
Ignoto this is going to be their year. Astounding stuff.
I have more predictions but that's it for now I think.
Oh, and one last thing; I think I have found the name for my site when it blasts into full gear 1st of June. Some of the contenders were:
Gorilla Vs. Some Kind Of Like-Sized Animal
My New Norwegian Blog
Stereochocolate
Scenemoons
and
Clever Titles Are So Hot Right Now.
I assure you that the name will be much worse than any of these, but you'll have to wait and see until the first of june!
Until next time, tell your friends!
Mmmm pants.
Crap
Are the songs down for everybody? I'm sorry if they are, and I'll try to get some YouSendIt-links up in stead.
Thanks to
Jon for the heads up. You other people are just too lazy.
Let's hear some tuuuuuunes!
Ok, going to get some songs up very quicly.
First up is Maxïmo Park who's done one of the best covers I've ever heard, it gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it. It's Natalie Imbruglia's song 'Shiver', and it's just... too good. Don't have time to search inside for complex comparisons and whatnot. Just get it.
Maxïmo Park - Shiver (Natalie Imbruglia cover, Live at BBC)(Now YouSendIt)
Next up we have an up and coming band from Britain, who's doing that whole instrumental rock thing that's so hot over there right now (See bands such as 65 Days Of Static which I'll probably do a thing on while I'm in Russia). They usually don't sing, but to mix it up a little they shout a bit on this track, and I think it's really cool. The lead guitarist is just fantastic, and I love the melodies he puts on this track. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you:
Fight Fire With Water - We're Philosophers, Sibbie(Now YouSendIt)
Yes; that is a nod to Homestar Runner, which makes them extra awesome in my book. Check out their webpage for more info, myspace etc... (It's currently down, but I guess it'll be good by the time you read this).
One last tune because I haven't got much time. Or I guess I should say one last dude, because he doesn't have any songs for download up on his site, so I'm going to have to point you in the direction of his myspace page. This is Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly and I just can't get enough of this. It's Acoustic / Experimental / Emo at it's finest. It's the 'Experimental' part that I like the most. Lots of details and he has a pleasant voice that's the perfect amount of emu. The song, Glass Houses, on his page starts out slowly, but when the singing kicks in you just have to kick back and relax. I could totally picture this on an episode of Scrubs if that helps you out in deciding on wether to give this a check or not. He's from the UK by the way.
EDIT: Found an mp3! I think it's dead good:
Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly - The Chronicles Of A Bohemian Teenager Part One(Now YouSendIt)
Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly (Website)
His Myspace. That's that for now. I'm hoping that I'll get enough time to look into changing the look of the blog when I get to Russia, but no promises. Remember to check in here now and again now, seeing as it's been rescesitated (I have no idea if I spelt that right).
See ya'll in the blogosphere.
What's he building in there?
So I'm officially making this into my own nifty MP3-blog. BUT! (wow that's a big 'but', must mean I'm serious! ...hehe, I said 'big butt') seeing as I'm going back to Russia the day after tomorrow, where there's limited access to popculture, I won't be truly groundbreaking and stuff until I get back to Norway again the 1st of June. So I've considered doing weekly features on bands/albums/stuff
I think is absolutely neccesarry (memo to self: learn how to write 'necessary'... 2nd memo to self: don't write 'memo to self' anymore) to have in your life. Or at least the songs and bands that've affected me in some way during my 19 years on this earth. So the mp3's will sadly be kept at a low, and in stead I'll plug other blogs who have good tuuuuunes up on theirs, and try to make me some internet-pals in the process.
Are you cool? Yeah, I'm cool. (what's that, like the fifth time I've used that quote? I need to freshen up my material)
So by tonight I'll probably have a couple of tunes up, and some pics, so if you just read this: DON'T LEAVE YOUR DAMN SEAT!
I need to get building.
